Energy-TV Awards winners honoured in style during the Global Petroleum Show June 11, 2008 : Hundreds of people from the nation's energy sector joined the 2008 Energy-TV Awards at the Calgary Hyatt Regency on June 11 to honour the industry's leaders. This innovative awards show enabled industry to nominate and vote for their “pick of the patch” through an internet based nomination and voting process. This second annual Energy-TV Awards was hosted during the Global Petroleum Show (GPS) to capitalize on this massive event. “We strategically moved the 2008 Energy-TV Awards so they could be hosted during the world's largest petroleum show,” says Neil Chandran, Energy-TV executive producer. The move worked and the event was sold out before GPS began. An extensive multi-media campaign also resulted in intense voting for this year's event, with totals reaching in the thousands for some nominees. “Industry has proven this awards showcase is an effective forum to showcase the innovations and the innovator in the energy sector,” added Shelly Brimble, co-executive producer of Energy-TV and the overall coordinator of the Energy-TV Awards. A total of 25 awards honoured the icons of the energy sector including alternative energy products and products. Highlights of the evening included an Industry Legend Award that was presented in memory of Ron Bullen, founder of Canadian Fracmaster whose zest for life and international quest in the Former Soviet Union that opened new frontiers for Canada 's service and supply industry. Another highlight during the event was the Alberta Solar Decathlon Project that won the Top Alternative Energy Project. A surprise announcement came from the presenters, Menova Energy, that they are donating the expensive solar panels for this project—on behalf of Energy-TV. "We are proud to have Tim Montpetit, VP of Business Development for Menova Energy presents the Top Alternative Energy Project and make this major announcement,” says Helena Devries, co-host of Energy-TV and the Energy-TV Awards. “On behalf of Menova and Power Panel Inc, Energy TV is happy to announce their full sponsorship to the Alberta Solar Decathlon team, for the panel portion of the project." Part of the mandate of this awards show was to also give back to the indsutry. Chandran Media donated $10,000 to STARS, $5,000 to the Petroleum Services Association of Canada's Education Fund as well as $5,000 to the Canadian Petroleum Discovery Centre. Chandran said during the Energy-TV Awards that STARS is a charity that he is happy to give to and wished they were in the air when his father had an incident on the road coming home from his job in the oilfield. “With my father involved in the industry and experiencing a close call one night driving after work, I made it my goal to give back to the energy sector as it has devoted so much to this province.” says Chandran. Guests that included many industry leaders agreed that this first annual event was a hit. “It was a huge success, from the ground up; the awards exemplified all that is the energy industry. Hard work, innovation, class…success,” says Chandran. The Energy-TV Awards show is slated for a prime time special to air on Global Television in January. Stay posted to all the new www.energy-tv.com for air dates and times. A complete list of winners as well as event photos are also posted at the Energy-TV web site. Energy-TV highlights the people, the trends, the politics and the innovations in both the petroleum industry and the alternative energy industry on Global TV. For the first time ever, people from the oil and gas and alternative energy sectors will be able to nominate and vote to select the Energy-TV Awards winners through the Energy-TV web site at www.energy-tv.com. Neil Chandran, Energy-TV executive producer, says "We are very excited to feature the innovators in the energy sector in this first annual Energy-TV Awards event. Voting has already been active and we look forward to hosting this unique 'people's choice' exclusive awards evening." Nominations for the Energy-TV Awards will close October 31 and voting ends November 2. The winners will be given their awards at the exclusive red carpet Energy-TV Awards event, hosted at Flames Central, in Calgary on November 23. The entire evening will be filmed with the footage developed into a one-hour prime time show that will be broadcast across Alberta on Global TV (with a potential viewer audience of six million). The Energy-TV Awards will be hosted by Chandran and the well known Energy-TV anchor, Helena DeVries. Special industry guest presenters will also attend this exclusive event along with many leaders from both the petroleum and the alternative energy sectors. Canada is the third-largest producer of natural gas and the eighth-largest producer of crude oil in the world. The upstream sector is the largest single private sector investor in Canada. In 2005, the petroleum industry spent over $45 billion in their quest for oil and gas reserves. The alternative energy sector includes wind power, biofuel, solar power, wave power, geothermal and nuclear energy. Combined, these alternative energies are expected to total three to four per cent of Canada's energy mix in the future. With Canada's commitment to the Kyoto Accord, more capital is being driven to further develop these greener energy sources. As a result, expansion of wind power and biofuel development is providing unique investment opportunities that are featured on Energy-TV's Alberta-wide industry edition as well as on the nationally broadcast Energy-TV investment show - both on Global TV. Additionally, Energy-TV airs on ABC in Houston and Dallas with American content. Watch the Energy-TV web site for more information on the American Energy-TV Awards event being held at the Petroleum Club in Houston on March 1, 2008. Sponsorship opportunities are available for the Calgary and Houston Energy-TV Awards providing a unique vertical marketing opportunity. Sponsors already include June Warren Publishing, TELUS Energy Sector, ATB Financial and Canaccord Capital. A portion of each sponsorship from the Energy-TV Awards will be donated to STARS air ambulance, PSAC's Education Fund and the Canadian Petroleum Discovery Centre.
